Student Wellbeing at Granville Public School
At Granville Public School, we are committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student feels respected, valued and ready to learn. Our Student Wellbeing Framework sets out how we nurture positive behaviour, promote academic success, and develop the social and emotional skills students need to thrive.
Our vision
We aim to foster a culture of opportunity, personal excellence and belonging. By working together with students, staff and families, we build a community where every child is empowered to achieve their best.
- We set high expectations for learning and behaviour.
- We use consistent and predictable routines to provide certainty and safety.
We focus on positive, respectful relationships that help students engage, learn and grow.
Our core values
Our framework is anchored in three values:
- Safe – We look after ourselves and others.
- Respectful – We show kindness, fairness and care.
- Learners – We try our best, stay focused and embrace challenges.
These values shape the way we behave, learn and work together as a community.
Our expectations
To make our values clear and practical, we have five everyday expectations that are explicitly taught, modelled and reinforced:
- Work Hard – Give things a go, stay focused and keep trying.
- Follow Instructions – Listen carefully and act the first time.
- Right Place, Right Time – Be where you need to be, doing the right thing.
- Hands and Feet to Ourselves – Keep everyone safe, even when playing.
Care for Ourselves, Others and Our School – Show kindness and respect for our environment.
Building a safe and supportive environment
Positive Teacher–Student Relationships
We know learning flourishes when relationships are strong. Teachers at Granville PS:
- Greet students warmly each day.
- Model positive behaviours.
- Provide genuine praise and encouragement.
- Respond fairly and consistently to student needs.
- Take time to know and understand families and culture.
Unconditional Positive Regard
Every student is valued, regardless of their behaviour or challenges. Staff separate the child from their behaviour, maintain a vision of the child’s potential, and respond with care, honesty and respect.
Consistent Predictable Routines
Routines help students feel safe and focused. Across the school, we teach and reinforce routines such as:
- Wonderful Walking – moving safely and respectfully.
- Legendary Line Ups – lining up calmly and ready to learn.
- SLANT and Attention Routines – showing we are ready to learn.
- Entry, Exit and Pack-Up Routines – creating smooth transitions.
- Eating Time Routines – promoting calm and respectful mealtimes.

Responding to behaviour fairly and consistently
Granville PS uses a clear Step System to support students in making positive choices:
- Step 1 & 2 – Verbal reminders, using respectful scripts.
- Step 3 (Time In/Calm Corner) – Opportunity to reflect and reset.
- Step 4 (Satellite Reflection) – Reflection time with an executive staff member.
Blue Card – Immediate executive support for serious or unsafe behaviours.
Minor vs Major Behaviours
- Minor behaviours include calling out, rough play, or not following instructions. These are managed in class with reminders and redirection.
- Major behaviours include deliberate harm, threats, racial comments, or leaving supervision. These require executive involvement and parent contact.
Anti-bullying commitment
Granville PS rejects all forms of bullying, including cyberbullying. Our Anti-Bullying Plan ensures:
- Clear definitions of bullying and conflict.
- Regular teaching through assemblies, PDHPE and PBL lessons.
- Strong partnerships with families to promote kindness, respect and inclusion.
Students are explicitly taught to recognise, report, refuse and respond when they encounter bullying.
Shared responsibility
Wellbeing at Granville is a whole-school responsibility.
- Students are expected to follow our values and expectations.
- Staff model consistency, fairness and care.
Parents and carers work with us to support their children and strengthen our community.
Student Wellbeing at Granville Public School is a whole-school approach that combines Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), trauma-informed practice and social-emotional learning. By working together, we ensure that every student feels safe, connected and confident to reach their full potential.
